Our garden here on the Costa Blanca is showing the signs of autumn/fall. The blackberries are over (they fruit very early here) and the oranges are just losing their green colour and turning … well, orange. Piles of leaves are starting to accumulate, and soon I'll have to start thinking about shifting them. In other events, our oldest cat (Sally, 16 years old) has just had four teeth removed from one side of her jaw. It doesn't seem to have affected her habits - she has more appetite than ever.

Hardbacks

On the book front, things are always busy. I've recently published an ebook on Amazon called A Murder Of No Consequence. It is set in Madrid at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, and readers of my other books will recognise the hero - Paco Ruiz - since he has already appeared in one of the Woodend series (The Butcher Beyond) and the 3rd Paniatowski (Echoes Of The Dead). In A Murder Of No Consequence, Paco is faced with the problem of investigating the murder of a young girl at a time when the country is falling apart. No one else seems interesting in solving the case, but Paco - for reasons related to his own past history - is determined to bring the killer to justice. The further he gets into the investigation, the more he realises that it is not a simple murder at all, and that there are dark political motivations behind it. The book has already received five-star reader reviews on both amazon.com and amazon.co.uk. There are two more books in the series, and I intend to publish them over time. I've kept the price as close to Amazon's minimum as I could, because I'm really eager to have people read the book.

My latest book in the Sam Blackstone series (Blackstone And The Endgame) is set in Russia, and has had some very favourable reviews on Goodreads. I wait in nervous anticipation - as always - for the professional critics of Kirkus Reviews and Booklist to deliver their verdicts.

My next book is the 7th Paniatowski, and is called Death's Dark Shadow. It is set partly in Spain (though the murders are committed in England) and features Charlie Woodend and Paco Ruiz, as well as Monika and her team.

Finally, there will be two different versions of the audio of A Walk With The Dead, one from Soundings, who have done all the other Paniatowski novels, which will be available in Britain and most of the Commonwealth, and the other by an American company, which will be on sale in Canada and the USA. I look forward to comparing them.
