Set in the real salt mining village of Marston (where I grew up) these books follow the life of Becky Taylor and her family from the latter part of the Nineteenth Century until the First World War. Life is rarely easy for the Taylors. Becky's father loses his job in the mine through injury, and it seems as if the family will starve. Her brother Philip is mixed up with some very shady characters, and there is a chance he will end up in real trouble. And Becky herself is first seduced, and then callously discarded, by the wicked Richard Worrell, whose father owns one of the salt works.

My aim in writing these books has been both to produce exciting stories and create a vivid picture of a way of life which has now long gone.
